B&S
Karaoke does not use a number system, so there's is no need to
write anything down unless it’s for your own use. We don't use
song slips and there's is no need to put your song in ahead of
time. When you are called up to sing, have your song selection
ready, and I will look it up on the computer.
Regular
customers who I know and see, will be put in the rotation as they walk in the
door. I try to see everyone but sometimes I don't, so
please check the rotation on the screen to make sure you have been
added in. If not, come up and say hi and I'll add you in. If
you are new to Effie's and would like to sing, come up and say hi
and give me
your name. I will then add you into the rotation.
Once
you sing at my show you inherit a history, this history keeps a
list of all the songs that you have sang at my show. So the next
time you come in, we can look at it and you can select a song from
it. It keeps the same brand and same key change if you had
one.
I
can not and will not load any personal discs on busy nights. I
have to open another program to do this, and it takes too much
time. Most of the time, I already have the same song and brand of
your disc loaded on my computer. We have placed our song list on
this website so you can see if we have the song you would like to
sing. To
see our song book, click here. If
we don't have your song and it's available, let me know, and I will get it for
you.
About Our Rotation
At
B&S Karaoke, I use a rotation based on a first come first serve
basis. However, there will be times when I will work new singers into the
line up depending on how long the rotation is. I believe that my system benefits all singers and
helps to ensure that you sing the maximum amount of songs possible.
I have spent a lot of time and effort developing
this system through trial and error and with the input of my singers,
and I believe it is the most comprehensive and beneficial style being used
in any Karaoke show today.
Please know that
I understand that a fair and
consistent rotation is important to all singers, and I constantly strive
to achieve this goal. I do not play favorites and do not accept tips
for rotation placement purposes.
Because
the rotation is done fairly, I ask that you please do not keep coming up
and asking me when your turn is. There is a scrolling rotation displayed
on the TV screen at all times, please watch it for your name. If for
some reason you do not see your name, then come up and let me know.
Rules
To Ensure Everyone Has Fun
-
Please treat the song
books with respect. A lot of time and expensive has gone in to their
preparation.
-
Please
be available when your name is called, try not to go outside if you
turn is coming up. I will call you 3 times only.
-
Please be respectful
to all singers. Please don't talk loudly when they are singing
and always clap when they finish their song.
-
Please do not sing
with other singers unless you have been invited.
-
Please do not take
you drinks up to the stage with you. Please leave them on your
table. An accidentally spilled drink can damage the equipment.
-
Please do not use vulgar
or obscene language.
-
Please do not swing
or throw the microphones.
-
Although
not required, tips are very much appreciated as they are used to
keep my Karaoke Songs up to date.
To avoid
sounding distorted or muffled when you sing, I have compiled a
list of suggestions to help you learn to use the
microphone properly and to make you sound good.
1. If using a microphone stand make sure it is at a comfortable
height for you to sing into before starting - mucking about with
it during a song will be distracting to you and the audience.
2. When using a microphone with a lead attached, ensure that the
lead is firmly attached to the microphone and you are not standing
on the loose cable.
3. Check the on/off switch! Some microphones have a small switch which
moves easily - this can be turned off by accident when you grip
the microphone or the previous singer may have turned it off
without the KJ's knowledge.
4. Hold the microphone by the handle, don't cover the pickup with
your hand or fingers and keep the microphone at a distance of
1/2" - 1" away from your mouth - holding it too close to
your mouth or covering the pickup causes your voice and the words
to sound muffled, distorted and indistinct.
5. If you have a particularly quiet singing voice ask the KJ to
turn the microphone up for you - a good operator will do this
automatically when you start to sing.
6. Don't shout! The microphone is sensitive - if you have a loud
voice or need to increase your vocal volume for a certain track
section or song, move the microphone away from your mouth until your
singing sounds clear and easy to understand.
7. Avoid pointing the microphone towards the speakers or monitors
- this creates a horrible high pitched sound called 'feedback'.
8. To avoid 'popping' sounds when singing words containing 'B',
'P' or 'S' hold the microphone slightly to the side instead of
directly to the front of your mouth.
9. When singing a long powerful note move the microphone away from
your mouth during the loud notes and gradually bring it back
towards you as you start to run out of breath and the notes volume
decreases - this makes the notes volume sound more consistent.
10. Don't swing or drop the microphone, tug, pull the cable or
move further than the microphone cables natural length or you may
cause damage to the equipment - you bust it you pay for it (&
it's expensive)!!
